Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has showered praise on Shubman Gill’s team for coming up with consistent performances in the Anderson-Tendulkar series against England. Karthik reckons the visitors performed above the lofty expectations and delivered as a unit.
The RCB mentor admitted that India would lose the series by 3-1 on Monday, but they haven’t been hammered by England, like they were against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series.
India came up with a consistent batting performance throughout the series as KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Rishabh Pant delivered consistently.
Dinesh Karthik said on Sky Sports Cricket, “It’s a young team. They lost 3-1 in Australia. That was a hammering. They might end up losing 3-1 tomorrow [Monday], but this was not a hammering. They stood up every time. They fought and did everything they could, sometimes out of their skins in terms of skill level.
“Yes, they got some nicer batting wickets to bat on, but they made use of it. They got some big runs; their batting stood up. I think this Indian team is here to stay for the next decade. You’ll almost see the same set of players for a while now,” the 40-year-old former RCB batter added.
Meanwhile, England ended the day’s play at 339-6, needing another 35 runs to win with four wickets in hand. Karthik said the home team has an advantage going into the final day of the series.
Karthik said, “I think England are ahead at this stage. Jamie Smith batting there with a bowling all-rounder coming in – Gus Atkinson.”
India has given their best throughout the series and deserves a lot of credit for their performances.
