Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has highlighted that Mayank Yadav is improving his bowling in every match in the ongoing series against the West Indies. Yadav returned with figures of 0-34 in four overs he bowled in the third T20I against the West Indies at the Holkar Stadium, Indore on Sunday.
In the second game of the series, Yadav returned with impressive figures of 3-36 in three overs he bowled but his efforts went in vain as India suffered a six-wicket loss.
Yadav has been consistently bowling above the 145 kmph mark and has also hit the right line and length, especially in the Powerplay overs.
“This game again, he bowled very quick, did not get as many wickets as he did last game, but what he has shown is good skills in the powerplay. I think he is able to hit a good length. Good again on Mayank Yadav to come back to speed with his pace. It is important that when you have had an injury like he’s had and has been out for so long, you will have your doubts. But you can see that confidence in his body as much as his bowling is slowly growing with every game that he is playing,” Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, Karthik praised Arshdeep Singh for taking the onus on his shoulders as a pack leader. Singh returned with impressive figures of 3-44 in his quota of four overs and was awarded Player of the Match.
“On a pitch which has produced over 400 runs, you want to give it (player of the match award) to a bowler who has created an impact on a given day. He got three wickets, and yes, he has gone for a few runs which you are bound to go in a ground like this and when they are constantly trying to hit boundaries. But the wickets column is what has made the difference for India,” Dinesh Karthik said.
“He bowled very well, showed his experience. We discussed how Siraj has done it in Test cricket, it should be Arshdeep in T20 cricket, and he has shouldered the responsibility of being the primary bowler quite nicely. He’s bowling important overs and he has been aggressive with his mindset,” Karthik added.
The fourth T20I between India and the West Indies will be played at Hyderabad on Wednesday.
