Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik believes Jasprit Bumrah might not play all the three ODIs against England. Bumrah hasn’t played any professional cricket since the conclusion of the IPL 2026.
The Indian ace pacer had looked toothless in the lucrative tournament and was rested for Afghanistan series and the T20I series against Ireland and England.
Karthik said it won’t be a major surprise for him if Bumrah plays on 14th and 19th of July and gets rested in the second ODI.
Dinesh Karthik said on Sky Sports, “With Bumrah back, India will fancy a strong ODI series. He should ideally play all three ODIs and that will be a check for his body as well. Though I won’t be surprised if he just plays on the 14th and 19th and gives a skip on 16th if he’s body is not completely ready.”
Meanwhile, Karthik reckons this ODI series will be the last stint for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in English conditions. Karthik added the duo will play their last major tournament in 2027 World Cup.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will surely have their last-ever stint in England in this series. The 2027 World Cup will be the last tournament they play in the Blues for India. But with these two, India will definitely have better adaptability during the ODI series, something that was missing in the T20Is,” said Karthik (via the aforementioned source).
Rohit and Kohli have all the experience under their belt and their presence will be a huge boost for the team after the drubbing in the T20I series.
The first ODI between England and India will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Tuesday.
