Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh criticised Delhi Capitals’ selection after they suffered an eight-wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday. Ganesh questioned Delhi Capitals think tank’s decision to persist with Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka despite his indifferent form.
Nissanka was dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary after he scored 19 runs off 15 balls. Ganesh said DC can open the innings with Prithvi Shaw, Abishek Porel and Nitish Rana but he doesn’t understand the team’s backing of Pathum Nissanka.
Nissanka has scored 228 runs in nine matches at an average of 25.33 and a strike rate of 156.16 in the ongoing IPL 2026.
“There’s so much Indian batting talent available in Delhi’s camp. They can so easily open with Shaw/Rana/Porel along with KL, & have Miller in the middle order. Instead, the geniuses play Nissanka at the top & drop Miller. Tell me, how can this be a serious cricket team?” the former player, Dodda Ganesh, posted on X.
Meanwhile, DC managed only 155-7 on a tricky pitch against CSK and the visitors were able to chase down the total with 15 balls to spare. Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs scored 40 and 38 runs respectively but none of the other DC batters were able to show much resistance whereas Sanju Samson scored a match-winning knock of 87 runs off just 52 balls for CSK.
DC has failed to achieve any kind of consistency in the ongoing season and they would need to turn a corner in the upcoming matches.
Delhi Capitals will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Friday.
