Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played down Ben Duckett’s remark after the conclusion of the five-match Test series against England, which the hosts won by 4-1. In the Rajkot Test, Duckett said England deserved some credit for the way Jaiswal is batting in the series.
Jaiswal had scored a fine double-century but Duckett was slammed for his remark by a lot of cricket boffins, including former England skipper Nasser Hussain.
“When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket,” said Duckett.
“I don’t want to say anything about it. I just need to try and do whatever I can do on the ground that says the best I can do,” said Jaiswal in an interview with Indian Express.
On the other hand, Jaiswal scored 712 runs in the five-match Test series against England at an impressive average of 89 and played a key role in the success of the team. Jaiswal is delighted to contribute to the team’s success as he gave solid starts to the team while batting at the top of the order.
“It’s a great feeling, I’m happy but I want to be more focused, so that I can do well for my team. I’m not thinking about anything today. I want to take one match at a time. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so I don’t want to think too much,” said Jaiswal.
Jaiswal will be in action next during the IPL 2024 season for the Rajasthan Royals. The left-hander will look to continue his rich form in the lucrative tournament. Jaiswal had scored 625 runs in 14 matches of the previous season of the IPL.
