ENG vs IND 2021: Hard to curb natural instincts – Zaheer Khan backs Rohit Sharma to convert starts into big score

India’s experienced batsman Rohit Sharma has been getting off to starts in the foreign conditions but hasn’t been able to convert them into substantial scores.

Rohit got off to decent starts in the last two Test matches against Australia but could not go on to make a big score.

Similarly, he once again got off to a good start against New Zealand in the World Test Championship final but once again could not convert it into a massive score.

In fact, it has been noticed that Rohit is showing all the patience and good defensive skills and he is looking to bat big for the team. The Indian opener has adopted a sedate approach in the challenging foreign conditions and he has done the hard work in the early stages of the innings.

Rohit once again did the hard work in the first innings of the first Test match against England as he scored 36 runs from 107 balls. However, Rohit went for the pull shot, which is his forte, but holed out to Sam Curran at deep fine leg just at the stroke of Lunch.

Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has stated that it is hard to curb natural instincts and he has backed Rohit Sharma to convert his starts into big scores.

Zaheer Khan said while talking to Cricbuzz Chatter, “He is fulfilling his responsibility for the team at the top of the order by seeing out the tough phase and then he brings out his natural game where it’s about converting 40s into 100s, something in which he is very proficient. I’m sure you’ll see a big knock from him soon.”

Zaheer added that Rohit Sharma not only did the hard work in this innings but also has done the work in the previous knocks.

“He had done the hard work. Not only in this innings, but before as well. When natural instinct takes over after having dealt with the initial tough phase of play, he, unfortunately, loses his wicket. You cannot curb your natural instinct for a long period of time. He played over 100 deliveries, he got through the tough time, so he already did the job for his team,” Zaheer Khan elaborated.

Rohit Sharma has all the experience under his belt and he will look to make the most of it in the coming matches.
