Former England fast bowler Darren Gough has tipped Jasprit Bumrah as the best all-format cricketer in the world. Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in all the three versions of the game and he has been consistently performing for India.
The gun pacer was at his lethal best in the first ODI against England at Kennington Oval, London on Tuesday. The pacer returned with his best bowling figures of 6-19 in the first game and he was just unplayable.
Bumrah bowled 38 dot balls in his fine spell as he breathed down the neck of the opposition batters with his swing and seam. The 28-year-old from Ahmedabad accounted for Jason Roy, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, David Willey and Brydon Carse in his magnificent spell.
Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Series for India in the Test series as he scalped 23 wickets in five matches at an average of 22.47.
Bumrah is known for his death bowling as he accurately bowls the yorkers while he can also get the ball to swing and seam in the PowerPlay overs, which makes him a force to reckon with.
Darren Gough said on cricket.com YouTube Channel, “You could tell as soon as India started bowling on it that it was going to be very difficult for England to get away. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were sensational.
“I think we’ve all proven now that Bumrah is probably the best One-Day bowler in the world and the best all-format cricketer in the world. He proved that yesterday and it was an unbelievable spell of bowling.”
Gough, who had a smooth bowling action, added if there is any sideways movement, then Bumrah becomes unplayable.
“Jasprit Bumrah is always at you. You just can’t get him away. He’s always at you, nipping the ball back into right-handers and it’s really difficult. He’s quicker than anybody thinks, he skids on at pace and that’s what makes him so difficult to face. He’s got that great wrist action that comes at you off the pitch and gathers pace.”
“A lot of fast bowlers who are taller tend to bowl high-action into the pitch and it loses pace. With Bumrah, he skids on at pace and if there’s any sideways movement, he almost becomes unplayable.”
Bumrah has been doing a fine job for India and he will look to continue the good show for India in the upcoming matches. The fast bowler will be seen in action in the second ODI against England at the Mecca of Cricket, Lord’s on Thursday.
