Indian captain Rohit Sharma believes time will tell whether a loss at Edgbaston will have any impact on the T20I and ODI series against England. India lost the thrilling Test match against the Three Lions despite posting a target of 378 runs. Rohit Sharma tested positive for Covid-19 before the Test match and could not take part in the big game.
Jasprit Bumrah had led in Rohit’s absence but the Indian opener rejoined the team before the T20I series. India will look to be at their best in the white-ball series and they will be up against a potent England unit.
Meanwhile, Rohit’s form wasn’t the best in the IPL while leading Mumbai Indians. The right-hander could only score 268 runs in 14 matches for the five-time champions. Subsequently, Rohit was rested for the series against South Africa in the home conditions.
Sharma told the Times of India: “It’s obviously disappointing to not come out as victors. The Test series was for India to win. That said, time will tell whether that loss will have any impact in the T20I and ODI series against England. That was a different format and this will be a different one.”
On the other hand, it is well known that England will be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming series as they have a potent unit and they will be playing in their own conditions. Rohit feels it is going to be an important series for them keeping the T20 World Cup in view.
“With one eye on the World Cup later this year, this is an important series for us. That said, every game for India is important right now and we want to get out job done in this series as well. England will be a challenging side for us.”
“I am sure these boys who have been here for a while, played a handful of games against Ireland and a few practice games as well, will be looking forward to this T20 series.”
India will have to be at their best against England, which will be led by Jos Buttler after Eoin Morgan decided to retire recently. Rohit Sharma will also look to lead from the front and get back into form for his team.
The first T20I will be played on Thursday at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on Thursday.
