England captain Jos Buttler reckons they had put enough runs on the board in the third T20I against India at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Sunday after winning by 17 runs. The hosts posted an above-par score of 215 runs after Buttler won the toss and decided to bat first.
Dawid Malan was the top scorer for England as the left-hander played a blistering knock of 77 runs off just 39 balls with the help of six fours and five sixes. Liam Livingstone scored an unbeaten knock of 42 runs off just 29 balls for the Three Lions.
England continued to bat aggressively throughout their innings and the inexperienced Indian bowling attack didn’t have many answers. Furthermore, Harry Brook and Chris Jordan added the finishing touches for the home team as they scored 30 runs off just 12 balls collectively.
Umran Malik, who was playing his third T20I for Team India, took a beating as he conceded 56 runs in his quota of four overs. The Indian bowlers failed to put the break on the scoring rate as the England batters kept finding the boundaries at regular intervals.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav was the lone warrior for the Indian team as he scored a brilliant knock of 117 runs off just 55 balls. SKY became the fifth Indian batter to score a century in the T20I format but his effort went in vain as the rest of the players could not get going.
Jos Buttler was delighted with the team’s performance and heaped praise on Reece Topley and Chris Jordan, who impressed with their performances in the series.
Buttler said in the post-match presentation, “Good fun to play, fantastic game. I thought we had a slightly above-par score. Unbelievable innings from SKY. I thought Reece Topley bowled into the wicket and took pace off really well. It was pleasing to see Gleeson back up with another performance. CJ was good too. We are blessed with options. Lot of all-rounders in there as well. We bat deep. It was a difficult decision (to bowl the 19th over) but Mo was keen to bowl, selfless character. CJ has had a great series. Bowled some tough overs and he has looked in fantastic shape and got the rewards.”
England was able to secure a consolation win and India went on the win the series by 2-1. Both teams will now take place in three-match ODI series, starting on Tuesday.
