Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie reckons the Pat Cummins-led team has a chance to beat India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series. India has savored success against Australia in the last two tours and they will be determined to once again prove their mettle on the Australian shores.
On the other hand, Australia will look to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy, which they haven’t done in the last decade. The Aussies will look to make the most of their home conditions and get the job done.
Australia has a potent pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood and Gillespie backed the pace battery to deliver against the visitors.
“I will be backing them to do the job. They are the best bowlers in the country. I think their records speak for themselves. This quartet is the best possible bowling attack that Australia can put out in the park,” Gillespie told Fox Cricket.
“They are red-hot, they are playing some good test cricket for a while now. Even though they have beaten Australia in recent times, I think Australia have a chance to beat India this time around,” he added.
Meanwhile, Australia will be without the services of David Warner, who has announced his retirement from red-ball format. The Pakistan head coach reckons Steve Smith might go back to his usual batting position of number four against India.
“Players like David Warner are pretty tough to replace. I didn’t mind the idea of Steve Smith going up in the order. I have a feeling that he might have slot back in the middle order to bat at 4,” Gillespie said in the same interaction.
Smith has scored 171 runs at an average of 28.50 in four Test matches while opening the innings.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
