England batter Will Jacks has opened up on sharing the dressing room and the field with India’s superstar Virat Kohli in IPL 2024 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Jacks observed Kohli from close quarters and said that the talisman has 100% intensity for every ball in the practice session and replicates the same in the actual match.
Jacks added a fine alliance of 166 runs with Virat Kohli in the 45th match of IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans. The Englishman completed his century off just 41 balls whereas Kohli scored 70 off 44 balls. RCB was able to chase down 201 runs in 16 overs only and thus this win boosted their NRR.
Virat Kohli was once again at his absolute best for RCB, scoring 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69 in IPL 2024.
Asked by Nasser Hussain on his learning experience with the Indian maestro, the 25-year-old said on Sky Sports, “I think, firstly his attitude towards training. Every day is a day to get better. And that was really obvious. Some guys say but it’s harder to do that but with him, it was very obvious. And the way he goes into the game. Every ball, 100% intensity. When I batted with him in a chase, it was how he picked out how to do the chase. It was not just going ball by ball, looking ahead, really to see where he could plan and take risks at a certain time.”
Jacks admitted he surprised himself when he raced from 50 to 100 off just 10 balls against GT.
“Definitely surprised myself. I didn’t realize how quickly it was until I found out afterward. But now, especially batting at number 3, I realize I need to take my time,” Jacks said, talking about the knock.
