Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has urged the Indian selectors and the team management to consistently find a place in top 11 for Suryakumar Yadav in the Indian team.
Yadav has impressed with his batting skills and he has been able to grab his chances at the top level.
The right-hander from Mumbai scored a fifty against England on his debut T20I innings after he didn’t get a chance to bat on his debut match. The 30-year-old was once again able to hit the ground running on his ODI debut as he scored an unbeaten knock of 31 runs off just 20 balls in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
Suryakumar then scored a fine knock of 53 runs off just 44 balls in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. In fact, the visitors were under a bit of pressure as they lost the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan. However, Yadav played without any pressure and he was able to get going from the word go.
The right-hander played proper cricketing shots and didn’t allow the required run rate to increase despite the pressure on the visitors.
On the other hand, Yuvraj Singh also heaped praise on Deepak Chahar, who played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 69 runs to help his team get over the line despite being behind the eight-ball.
“Wow ! Even some of our bench strength is good enough to beat an international side !! What a win lads @deepak_chahar9 you can bat @surya_14kumar got a find a place for this talent in top 11 ! congratulations skipper @SDhawan25 #rahuldravid and the whole team,” Yuvraj had tweeted post India’s ODI series win.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has the experience of playing 100 List A games and it was palpable in his stroke play as he played maturely despite not having a lot of International experience. Moreover, Yadav has been a consistent performer for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League over the years and deserves his chances in the national team.
The third ODI will be played on Friday.
