India’s former opener Gautam Gambhir said he would love to coach Team India as there would be no bigger honor for him. Gambhir recently helped Kolkata Knight Riders to lift their third IPL title, as a mentor. The former Delhi skipper is known to take the bull by its horns and India will be expected to play more aggressively if he takes up the coaching role.
As Rahul Dravid will not continue as India’s head coach after the T20 World Cup, Gambhir is the hot favorite to take up the role. Gambhir has an excellent record as a mentor in the IPL (led LSG to playoffs on two occasions) and he can certainly deliver for the team. The former left-hander also led KKR to two titles in the IPL in 2012 and 2014.
“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and more across the globe as well and when you represent India, how can it get bigger than that?”, Gambhir said at an event in Abu Dhabi as quoted by ANI.
The 2007 T20 World Cup winner feels the collective effort of the team will help them go all the way in the big event.
“It is not me that will help India win the World Cup, it is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup,” he remarked.
Gambhir said it is imperative for the team to be fearless to get the desired results in the big events.
“The most important thing is to be fearless,” Gambhir asserted.
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5th.
