Gujarat Titans have strengthened their coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season by appointing former India wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya as an assistant coach.
Dahiya, a respected figure in Indian cricket circles, brings with him a wealth of experience both as a former international player and as a coach. The 51-year-old represented India national cricket team in 19 One Day Internationals and two Test matches during his playing career. Known for his calm presence behind the stumps and reliable lower-order batting, he also enjoyed a successful domestic career with Delhi cricket team.
After retiring from professional cricket, Dahiya moved into coaching and quickly established himself as a capable leader in domestic cricket. One of his early achievements came when he helped guide Delhi to the Ranji Trophy title in the 2007–08 season, highlighting his ability to develop players and manage competitive squads.
Over the years, Dahiya has expanded his coaching credentials across different levels of the game. Most recently, he was part of the support staff at Lucknow Super Giants from the franchise’s debut season in 2022. During his time with the Lucknow-based side, he contributed to the team’s development in the highly competitive IPL environment.
His appointment marks another step in Gujarat Titans’ efforts to reinforce their coaching team ahead of the new season. The franchise has been actively strengthening its support staff as it prepares for another campaign in the world’s most high-profile T20 league.
Earlier, the Titans also brought in former Australian batting great Matthew Hayden as their batting coach. The addition of the legendary opener, who enjoyed a prolific international career with Australia national cricket team, further underlines the franchise’s strategy of combining international experience with domestic expertise within its coaching setup.
With Dahiya joining the staff, Gujarat Titans hope to add greater tactical insight and player development support to their squad preparation. His experience working with domestic players and his familiarity with the demands of the IPL are expected to prove valuable for the franchise.
As teams begin finalising preparations for the upcoming IPL season, Gujarat Titans appear focused on building a strong backroom structure that can support players both on and off the field. The arrival of Vijay Dahiya signals the franchise’s intent to strengthen its foundation as it targets success in the 2026 edition of the tournament.
