Gujarat Titans delivered a commanding all-round performance to thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad by 82 runs in an IPL 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The emphatic victory, powered by Gujarat’s relentless pace attack and crucial half-centuries from B Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, extended the Titans’ dominance over Hyderabad to six consecutive wins and pushed them to the top of the league standings.
Defending 169 on a sluggish black-soil pitch, Gujarat’s pacers dismantled Hyderabad’s explosive top-order inside the PowerPlay itself. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj shared the early damage, reducing SRH to a disastrous 32 for four and effectively ending the chase before it could gather momentum.
Siraj struck first when Travis Head miscued a delivery to deep third, while Rabada cramped Abhishek Sharma for room and forced him to chop onto the stumps. The South African quick then removed Ishan Kishan with a sharp outswinger that induced a faint edge behind the wicket.
Rabada bowled an intense uninterrupted spell and finished with impressive figures of 3 for 28, later adding Ravichandran Smaran to his list of victims.
With Hyderabad already reeling, Prasidh Krishna and Jason Holder tightened the grip further through the middle overs, denying the visitors any chance of recovery.
Earlier, Gujarat had recovered strongly after a difficult start with the bat. After SRH captain Pat Cummins elected to bowl first, Hyderabad’s seamers dominated the early exchanges. Titans managed only 34 runs in the PowerPlay while losing skipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler cheaply.
Sai Sudharsan initially adopted a cautious approach as wickets fell around him. However, the innings transformed once Washington Sundar joined him at the crease after a brief cameo from Nishant Sindhu.
The pair stitched together a crucial 60-run partnership for the fourth wicket to wrest momentum back in Gujarat’s favour. Sai Sudharsan gradually accelerated, reaching his fifty with a powerful sweep shot against spinner Shivang Kumar before falling soon after while attempting an audacious reverse ramp.
Washington carried the charge forward brilliantly in the closing overs. Mixing elegant drives with inventive scoops and slog shots, the left-hander ensured Gujarat finished with a competitive total that eventually proved far beyond Hyderabad’s reach.
The dominant victory leaves Gujarat firmly in playoff contention while Sunrisers Hyderabad faces mounting pressure after another disappointing outing.
