Indian batter Hanuma Vihari lavished praise on Tilak Varma after the Men in Blue registered a comprehensive 90-run win at the Harare Sports Club, on Saturday. With this win, India was able to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.

Varma has been under scrutiny for his low strike rate in the recent past but answered his critics in style. The southpaw scored a majestic knock of 60 runs off just 29 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes.

He added 94 runs off 43 balls for the fourth wicket with Ishan Kishan, and the duo played a key role in helping India post 219 runs on the board.

“Many people had doubts about Tilak’s strike rate, but he can play like this whenever he starts well. He is very smart and someone who plays according to the situation. He is the only player, maybe along with Shreyas, who will play according to the situation. Maybe Ishan is slowly doing that these days but everyone else only plays big shots. If they click, they will win the match, or they will get out quickly. This is the pattern of T20 cricket, and I have no problem, but this is why players like Tilak are important,” Hanuma Vihari said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Vihari expressed concerns regarding the number of growing injuries for the Indian players.

“There are a lot of injury concerns. You see the number of injuries. Harshit, Nitish, Hardik, you name them. Varun also. A lot of injuries. I don’t know what the reason is,” he said.

India registered a 3-0 series win against Zimbabwe after winning the final T20I by 35 runs at Harare on Sunday.
