Indian batter Hanuma Vihari has opened up on Rohit Sharma’s century celebration after the second ODI against the West Indies, which the hosts won by eight wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Wednesday.
Rohit was dismissed cheaply after scoring 32 runs in the series opener but he bounced back strongly in the second game. The veteran scored an impressive knock of 101 runs off just 75 balls with the help of 10 fours and six sixes and played a key role in India’s eight-wicket win.
Rohit added 255 runs for the opening stand with skipper Shubman Gill, who went on to score a majestic knock of 233 runs off just 133 balls. After reaching his 35th ODI century, Rohit did an animated jog with high knees, showing how relieved he was after getting to the personal milestone.
Vihari said Rohit didn’t celebrate in such a fashion even after getting to his double centuries.
“I have not seen Rohit celebrate like that. Even when he has scored double hundreds, he has not celebrated like that. I don’t know the reason behind it but it is good to see. Even when he got out and was going back, Virat Kohli walked in and patted him. That’s why I say put aside your fan wars,” Hanuma Vihari said in a video on his YouTube channel.
On the other hand, Vihari hailed Indian skipper Shubman Gill, who scored a stunning knock of 233 runs off just 133 balls in the second game.
“Shubman Gill’s century in the first match was unnoticed because Kohli overshadowed him. But in this match, he took the attacking role. He carried on once he got his hundred. A captain’s knock. I mean, sky is the limit for him. The way he bats, especially in white ball cricket, hits through the line, punches well, pulls well, plays spinners well. I think, he is a phenomenal player. When you are chasing 406, to get a double hundred is a brave effort,” he said.
The third ODI between India and the West Indies will be played at New Chandigarh on Saturday.
