Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh questioned Shubman Gill’s captaincy after the Gujarat Titans suffered a three-wicket loss against the Punjab Kings at New Chandigarh on Tuesday. Gill gave only two overs to Mohammed Siraj as the experienced pacer returned with 0-15. Siraj has all the experience under his belt, but he was underutilised by Gill against PBKS.
On the other hand, Gill backed debutant Ashok Sharma at the fag end of the innings, and the youngster returned with 1-31 in the three overs he bowled.
Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube Channel, “Mohammed Siraj did not bowl much. This is beyond my understanding. Although he bowled two overs, I think he should have been used more. We don’t know if it was due to an injury or something else. It might have made a difference had he bowled.”
Meanwhile, the Turbanator praised Yuzvendra Chahal, who returned with impressive figures of 2-28 in his quota of four overs. The leg-spinner accounted for Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler in his spell and played a key role in restricting GT to 162.
“Abhi abhi to commentary kar rahe the (He was doing commentary recently). He returned to the field and did it in the same style. He is an exceptional bowler and got the wicket of Buttler,” Harbhajan commented in the same video.
Chahal was right on the money and dismissed Gill for the fourth time in the IPL.
Meanwhile, many experts also questioned Shubman Gill’s captaincy for introducing Prasidh Krishna late into the attack. Krishna bagged 3-29 in his four overs, but was brought into the attack in the 13th over by Gill.
Gujarat Titans will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Saturday.
