India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a quadricep injury. Pandya’s participation in the series was subject to fitness clearance, but he has reportedly suffered a fresh injury ahead of Afghanistan ODIs.
Recently, Pandya was not named in the 16-man squad for the UK tour as the selectors wanted to manage his workload, and thus Nitish Kumar Reddy was named in the squad.
Meanwhile, Pandya scored 206 runs in 10 matches at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.25 in IPL 2026. Furthermore, he could only pick four wickets in 10 games at a high economy rate of 11.42. Thus, he could not deliver consistently for the franchise.
It is understood that the new injury could be a result of him bowling his full quota of 10 overs at the CoE during the assessment.
“With three weeks for recovery, there is absolutely no chance of him playing the ODI series as his rehabilitation will not be complete,” said a BCCI source as quoted by India Today.
Earlier, Virat Kohli was ruled out of the ODI series with a hamstring injury and Yashasvi Jaiswal was named as the replacement. However, the BCCI hasn’t yet confirmed Pandya’s injury, let alone his replacement.
The first ODI between India and Afghanistan will be played at Dharamshala on Saturday. The second and third games will be played in Lucknow and Chennai on June 17 and 20, respectively.
