Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has vowed that they will play fearless cricket at Women T20 World Cup 2026. The Women in Blue won the ODI World Cup in 2025, which has given them a lot of confidence and they would look to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup title.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s team will begin their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday. India suffered a five-run loss against England in the warm-up after Richa Ghosh’s 68 went in vain in the run chase of 172. Earlier, India registered a 21-run win against West Indies and Kaur said these two games have given them a lot of confidence.
“These two practice games have given us a lot of confidence. And even today, even though we lost the game, Richa’s batting was a big positive for us. That’s a big belief that if we stay on the pitch, we can turn the game anytime,” Harmanpreet said after the England warm-up match.
Kaur admitted they could not stitch regular partnerships against England and barring Richa Ghosh, none of the other batters could show any resistance.
“I think it’s about partnerships and I think we missed them. Only Richa played a blinder. In T20 cricket, you need a few partnerships in the middle, which we missed today, but it’s good to see how Richa batted,” she said.
The Indian captain said they wanted to give every player a fair chance before the first fixture against Pakistan.
“We wanted to give everyone a fair chance before the first game, and I think everybody got one,” she added.
Kaur added that they are looking forward to the Pakistan clash with all the zest.
“What a way to start it. Pakistan in Birmingham. That is going to be a sensational atmosphere. We are really looking forward to that,” she said.
India would look to be at their best throughout the tournament.
