Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel said the team is currently not missing the services of Mitchell Starc as they have won both of their opening matches in IPL 2026. DC defeated LSG in the opening clash and then bested Mumbai Indians at home. Starc is currently injured and he is going through the rehab process.
The Australian fast bowler scalped 31 wickets in the Ashes against England and bowled a total of 153.1 overs. Starc also played at the fag end of the Big Bash League.
So far, Mukesh Kumar, Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan have done a decent job for Delhi Capitals in the first two games. Natarajan and Ngidi bagged three wickets apiece against LSG whereas Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets.
“Right now we have won two matches so we are not feeling Starc’s absence. But in coming matches, if they don’t perform then it depends there,” Munaf said in the pre-match press conference.
The 2011 World Cup winning bowler praised Starc and compared the Australian gun pacer with Jasprit Bumrah.
“He is one of the best bowlers in the world. Right now, everyone is like yeah we aren’t missing him because we are winning. But he is our top bowler. And I think there isn’t anyone better than Starc in the IPL. Bumrah is there whom you can compare with him. You can see how much experience, how fast he bowls, swings with new ball at 140 plus,” Munaf said.
Patel said there is no update yet on Starc’s availability from Cricket Australia.
“Till now there is no update Australian board physio or trainer or doctor will update,” said Munaf.
DC will host GT at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday.
