Legendary Sunil Gavaskar reckons Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s batting is a slight copy of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Gavaskar wants the Afghanistan batter to feature consistently for Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming Indian Premier League.
Gurbaz recently scored 87 runs in the three T20I matches against India at an average of 29.
The 22-year-old has scored 1271 runs in 49 T20I matches at an average of 25.94 and a strike rate of 137.11. The right-hander also played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023, scoring 227 runs in 11 matches at an average of 20.64.
Furthermore, Gurbaz scored 280 runs in nine matches in the ODI World Cup 2023 for Afghanistan.
Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports, “I have liked Gurbaz’s batting a lot based on whatever I have seen. He is extremely aggressive, and his batting is like a slight copy of MS Dhoni, and that is why I probably like it.”
After the World Cup came to an end, Gurbaz was seen giving money to poor people on footpaths.
“When the World Cup ended, after that, the job he did, he gave money to the people sleeping on the footpath. For doing that, he has to be in the team for me,” Gavaskar stated.
Meanwhile, the Little Master feels it will not be easy for KKR to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season.
“Not going to be easy (playoff qualification). They have to because they have got the experience, not only of playing on those kinds of pitches, of having played in the IPL for a while.”
Gavaskar added that KKR’s Rinku Singh has impressed tremendously with his consistent performances.
“I think that experience does come in very handy because you know what the pressure is and you know how to handle it. All these four players have done it exceptionally well. Rinku Singh, in particular, in the last year or so has been tremendous,” Gavaskar observed.
IPL 2024 begins on March 22 onwards.
