Indian captain Rohit Sharma has showered praise on Virat Kohli, who completed 16 years in international cricket on Sunday. Sharma said Kohli’s hunger and passion are unmatchable.
Kohli made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla and scored 12 runs off 22 balls while opening the innings with current head coach Gautam Gambhir. India lost that match by eight wickets but Kohli kept taking giant strides at the top level.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma scored 257 runs in eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.71, Kohli scored a vital knock of 76 runs off 59 balls in the all-important final against the Proteas after a disappointing run throughout the tournament. Thus, the duo once again played an instrumental role in taking India to glory.
“We all know that his hunger and his passion are unmatchable. Every time you see him, he comes out with different energy all the time. So many things that he brings to the table, to the team. His experience—I mean, so many games he’s played for India,” Sharma told Star Sports.
“You cannot just go and buy those games in the market. It happens through the struggles, through the tough situations. And all of that. So, yeah, I mean, I wish him the best. Every time we see him, you know, his game seems to be at a different level,” the hitman further added.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the backbone of Indian cricket and have delivered consistently in all three forms of the game. After the T20 World Cup triumph, the veteran duo decided to call it a day from the shortest format.
The pair will be seen in action in the upcoming series against Bangladesh, where India will host the Tigers for two Test matches and three T20Is.
