Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel said all eyes will be on Yashasvi Jaiswal for the five-match Test tour of Australia after his mundane returns on the South African tour. Jaiswal could only manage 50 runs in two Test matches against the Proteas on the 2023-24 tour.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal was on song throughout the five-match Test series against England earlier in the year. The southpaw scored 712 runs in five matches at an outstanding average of 89 and an impressive strike rate of 79.91. Thus, he was awarded Player of the Series as India won the series by 4-1.
The left-hander top-scored in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh with 189 runs in four innings at an average of 47.25. He was also awarded Player of the Match in the second Test at Kanpur for scoring twin fifties.
“If you see his numbers, when someone performs so well in India, you are eager to see how he performs overseas. His South African tour was not that good, so the eyes will be on how he performs in Australia. You have scored runs in Indian conditions, but if you score runs there as well, you get the stamp of an all-round batter,” Parthiv Patel said on Colors Cineplex.
Patel lauded Jaiswal for handling the short ball with comfort against the Bangladesh fast bowlers.
“We have seen the improvements in the last one year, especially the way he played the short balls against Bangladesh. Although it was only Bangladesh in Chennai, they had pacy bowlers, and he played the short ball very well,” he elaborated.
The former Gujarat captain lauded Jaiswal for gauging the conditions with guile and delivering for the team.
“He is understanding the conditions very well as to which shots he can play on which pitch, and where he has to defend. If you talk about pedigree, Yashasvi Jaiswal has everything,” he said.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
