Former Indian veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh picked Rohit Sharma as a better captain than MS Dhoni as he feels the former connects with his teammates in a very good way. Singh played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni for the Indian team and also for the Chennai Super Kings.
The off-spinner was also part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup winning team. On the other hand, the Turbanator also played under Rohit Sharma’s leadership for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Ergo, he observed both Rohit and Dhoni’s captaincy from close quarters.
Dhoni is regarded as one of India’s best captains, leading the team to the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Both Dhoni and Rohit led CSK and MI to five IPL titles respectively as leaders. Furthermore, Rohit recently led India to T20 World Cup glory in Barbados.
Harbhajan Singh said on Sports Yaari, “I chose Rohit above Dhoni because Rohit is people’s captain. He goes up to the people and asks them what they want. His teammates connect with him very well. But Dhoni’s style was different. He didn’t talk to anyone. He wanted to convey his thoughts through his silence. It was his way of communicating with others.”
Harbhajan said Rohit has made a lot of friends in his glorious career and he doesn’t have any enemies in the cricket fraternity.
“The best thing is that he throughout his career, he has made a lot of friends while climbing up. He doesn’t have any enemies. All the guys are still with him and you won’t see anyone speak anything bad about him.”
Rohit recently led India to a 2-0 series win against Bangladesh and he will be next in action in the three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting October 16.
