India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has opened up on his early interaction with captain Rohit Sharma in the IPL while playing for Mumbai Indians. Bumrah revealed he told Rohit that he would bowl a particular ball and asked the skipper to set the field accordingly in his early days in the tournamen.
Meanwhile, Bumrah made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2013. Virat Kohli was Bumrah’s maiden IPL wicket and he returned with impressive figures of 3-32 on his debut.
After that Bumrah kept rising through the ranks and took giant strides in his career under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the IPL.
“When I came into cricket, I actually didn’t know a lot. When I started playing in the IPL as well, I even used to go and tell Rohit that you set the field, I don’t know where the ball… I am going to bowl this ball. You set the field and I trust you. Whatever you feel is right, you set the field. Slowly, I realized that I cannot be overly dependent on someone because I have to learn my own craft,” Bumrah said on Indian Express Adda.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the Sri Lanka tour and newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir believes it is important to manage the gun pacer’s workload.
“Workload management for someone like Bumrah is important. For Bumrah, because he is one rare kind of a bowler who anyone would want, so it’s our responsibility to try and have him fresh for most of the important games. Not just for Bumrah but for other fast bowlers too.”
Bumrah has been a consistent performer for India in all three formats of the game and he is going to hold the key for the national team.
