Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa feels Suryakumar Yadav must bat at number three in the ongoing T20 World Cup and the number four position is too low for him. For it to happen, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will need to open the innings.
India dropped Yashasvi Jaiswal in the warm-up match against Bangladesh, which indicates that Kohli could open the innings with the Indian skipper.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best T20I batters in the world and he has the ability to turn the match on its head with his pyrotechnics. Yadav scored 345 runs in 11 matches of IPL 2024 at an average of 34.50 and a blistering strike rate of 167.47. Furthermore, the right-hander has scored 2141 runs in 60 T20I matches at an average of 45.55 and a whirlwind strike rate of 171.55.
Robin Uthappa said on Ravichandran Ashwin’s channel, “I feel No. 4 is too low for SKY. I think SKY should get as many balls as possible. So, my top three would be Rohit, Virat and SKY.”
“I think we are headed Rohit and Virat. I don’t think we’ll need a left-hander at the top simply because one has the experience, the class, the quality, the ability, potential of what these guys can do together when they come together and play to their potential is tremendous. And, the fact that we’ve enough depth in the batting lineup.”
On the other hand, Uthappa picked Arshdeep Singh as the second seamer ahead of Mohammed Siraj as he is not too sure about the latter’s death bowling.
“For me, Bumrah [first-choice pacer], and I would go [with] Arshdeep. My third seamer would be Hardik. It will proper two death bowling options because if you go [with] Siraj, somewhere I am not fully confident [with him] as a death bowling option just yet.”
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5th.
