India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah had Shaun Pollock and Ian Bishop in splits when he said he has tried the longer run-up but his speed remains the same, so why does he need to run extra. Bumrah has a stuttering short run-up and he adds a lot of energy in the fag end of his action. The force which allows him to bowl in excess of 140 km/h consistently is added in the last couple of steps.
Meanwhile, Bumrah shed light on how he developed his action. The gun pacer revealed that he had a small space in the backyard during his childhood days and there was not enough space for a long run-up. Ergo, Bumrah got used to bowling from a short run-up.
Furthermore, Bumrah has got an awkward run-up. The Gujarat pacer added that he has self-improved himself by watching videos. Bumrah added that he has never had proper coaching and hasn’t paid much heed to the people who thought he won’t be able to savour success with his bizarre but effective action.
“Basically, I have never been coached a lot. No professional coaching or camps. Till date, everything is self-taught, everything, through TV, videos. There is no proper reason for action,” Bumrah said.
“I have never really listened to people who told me that action needs to be changed, kept on developing strengths if I could have self belief,” the 26-year-old added.
“My run-up is because of that as we didn’t have so much space, so this (8 step run up) is the longest that you could have had, maybe this could have been the case,” he added.
“I have tried a longer run-up and nothing changes, speed is still the same so why to run so much, ” he said with a smile while talking to Ian Bishop and Shaun Pollock on ICC new series Inside Out.
Jasprit Bumrah has ticked the right boxes as a fast bowler in his career thus far. Bumrah has had a great start to his Test career as he has scalped 68 wickets in 14 Test matches at an average of 19.73.
Furthermore, Bumrah is known for his accurate bowling and he is mostly right on the money with his line and length. The ace paceman has the best yorker in the business and he is deadly in the death overs. Bumrah is at the second place in the ICC ODI rankings and he would like to keep improving his game. The 26-year old is also super fit which has helped him in reaping the fruits for the team.
Bumrah has got the skills to be the best in the game and he is always looking to improve his bowling. The right-arm pacer has all the weapons in his armoury and he can go a long way in his career.
