India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin observed that the best moment of India’s celebrations of the T20 World Cup triumph was when Virat Kohli gave the trophy to head coach Rahul Dravid, who was seen pumped up.
Dravid is always known to keep his emotions in check but he was on cloud nine after India’s seven-run win in the final against South Africa. Ashwin noticed that Dravid was emotional after India clinched the T20 World Cup title.
Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid had a glorious career but they failed to lift a big title. In his last assignment as India’s head coach, he took the team to glory and it must have been a huge satisfaction for him.
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Ashwin said, “My moment was When Virat Kohli called Rahul Dravid and gave the cup… I saw him hug the cup and cry. Rahul Dravid screamed and cried. I saw him enjoy. I felt that a lot.”
The wily off-spinner noted that Dravid was questioned when India failed to do well. Dravid was also the team’s captain when India was knocked out early in the 2007 ODI World Cup.
“I want to talk about a person who is sacred. 2007, 50-over World Cup. India gets knocked out. Rahul Dravid, the captain at that point of time. He he doesn’t captain the one-day side after that. He has been with the Indian team. If something doesn’t go well, if the Indian team goes out, if they lose a match, immediately, they ask what Rahul Dravid is doing.
“I know what he has been doing with this team for the past 2-3 years. I know how balanced he has been. I know how hard he has worked to change this approach. I know what he has given each of his players. Even when he is just sitting at home, he has been planning how to do this and that.”
Rahul Dravid has passed on the coaching baton to former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.
