Ravichandran Ashwin’s Tamil Nadu teammate Baba Indrajith believes the former has the dream to win an IPL title as a leader. Ashwin recently led Dindigul Dragons to glory in the Tamil Nadu Premier League as he led from the front.
Dindigul Dragons defeated Lyca Kovai Kings by six wickets after they chased down 130 in the summit clash. DD skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded Player of the Match for scoring 51 off 46 balls and conceding only 13 runs in his quota of four overs.
Ashwin scored 252 runs in nine innings of the tournament at an average of 36. Furthermore, he bagged nine wickets in 10 matches of TNPL.
On the other hand, Baba Indrajith also played a key role in his team’s success, scoring 286 runs in 10 matches at an impressive average of 40.86.
Meanwhile, Ashwin led Punjab Kings for two seasons in the IPL but the team failed to qualify for the playoffs and he was released from captaincy duties by the franchise.
“Of course, everyone will see him as a captain, he has a very good cricketing brain. He’s always thinking of getting one up over the batter or the bowler. He has all the leadership qualities, I think he has the dream to win an IPL trophy as a captain, so why not,” said Indrajith in an interview with cricket.com.
Indrajith hailed Ashwin’s leadership and said the veteran all-rounder was involved with every member of the squad to get the best out of his players.
“His involvement was not just in his skills but other players’ skills as well, not just on-field but off-field as well. In the last 30-35 days, including the camp [10 days], he was involved throughout. Right from the first person to the 20th person, he was involved with all, constantly pushing them to increase their fitness and strength. I don’t think even a head coach would have done as much as him,” said Indrajith.
Ashwin was at his absolute best in TNPL 2024 and led from the front with both bat and the ball.
