I was looking to hit the fifth consecutive six but decided to bat till the end – Yuvraj Singh

India’s former batsman Yuvraj Singh turned back the clock as he smashed four sixes on the bounce in the 13th match of the ongoing Road Safety World Series 2021 against South Africa legends at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Saturday.

Singh was striking the ball cleanly and he scored an unbeaten blistering knock of 52 runs from only 22 balls with the help of two fours and six sixes, thus helped Sachin Tendulkar-led team post a par score of 204 runs.

The left-hander went berserk in the 18th over of the first innings as he smashed Zander de Bruyn all over the ground. Yuvraj’s four sixes were a reminiscence of his six sixes which he had scored against Stuart Broad in the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Meanwhile, the first ball of the 18th over was a dot and then Yuvraj decided to catapult his attack on the bowler. On the last ball, he wanted to go for the fifth consecutive six but decided against it as he wanted to take the team to a par score by batting till the end.

Yuvraj scored two more sixes and completed his fifty in only 21 balls as he batted at the top of his game.

“I was looking to hit the fifth consecutive six because I remember that there was one dot ball in the over. And I was waiting for the bowler to bowl in my areas. So after the fourth sixes, I was looking for the fifth six but there were also two overs to go so I decided to rotate the strike and bat till the end to have a big score. The wicket was really good and the South had won the last game. So I wanted to bat till the end and am happy to do that,” said Yuvraj Singh in a press conference after the game.

Yuvraj has thus far scored 85 runs in four innings of the ongoing tournament as he has scored his runs at an average of 42.50 and a whirlwind strike rate of 160.38. Yuvraj added that playing in the Road Safety series is like playing for India again as he was getting support from the crowd.

“It’s like playing for India again, everybody in the stands was holding a light and it was amazing. It is great to see people coming back into the ground and enjoying the game. It has been hard for everyone during Covid-19, people on television or people on the ground are getting to watch some entertaining cricket. All the players are happy to express themselves,” said Yuvraj Singh.

India Legends is at the top of the points table with five wins from six matches.
