There has been a lot of talk regarding Ravichandran Ashwin’s place in the white-ball team as the all-rounder has been in sublime form in the Test fold in the recent past. Ashwin had bagged the Player of the Series award for taking 32 wickets in four Test matches against England and also scored 189 runs.
Furthermore, Ashwin also had a good season for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. Ashwin had scalped 13 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 30.08 and had played a key role in taking his team to the final of the tournament.
However, when Virat Kohli was asked about Ashwin’s place in the T20I squad, the Indian skipper stated that they already have Washington Sundar, who is doing a fine job for the team and thus it doesn’t make much sense to get two players of the same discipline in the squad.
On the other hand, Ashwin stated that he is at peace with his white-ball career and he is not thinking too much about what people have to say about his future.
“A lot of times people tell these lines on leadership forums that ‘you need to compete with yourself. But I have definitely found the balance and learned in life about how I must be competing with myself and be at complete peace when I am doing that,” Ashwin told India Today.
“Because when some of these questions are asked about my ODI return, T20I return, white-ball dreams, and all these things, I find those questions are really laughable because I am totally at peace and extremely happy with the life I am leading right now,” he added.
Ashwin added that if he gets his opportunity then he will try to come up with a ground-breaking performance to prove his mettle.
“That given an opportunity anywhere, I would make a game-breaking performance which I am almost certain about because of the space I find myself in.”What questions people have to ask, what opinions people have, I am not worried about at all. As of now, every single game I play out there in the park, I want to leave a smile on my face and everybody else’s,” Ashwin signed off.
Ashwin last played a T20 match back in July 2017 and since then he hasn’t played any limited-overs series. The young players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar have grabbed their opportunities and thus it will be a difficult road back for Ashwin in the limited-overs set-up.
Meanwhile, Ashwin will be next seen in action while playing for Delhi Capitals in the forthcoming IPL. Delhi will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium on 10th April.
