Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif reckons if Prithvi Shaw can do well in the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka and the second phase of IPL 2021, he can be included in the T20 World Cup. Kaif has observed Shaw from close corners as the fielding coach of Delhi Capitals, the franchise for which the right-hander plays in the IPL.
Meanwhile, Shaw has been in sublime form in the recent past and he will look to grab his opportunities in the upcoming series against the Island nation. The right-hander scored 827 runs in the eight matches of Vijay Hazare and ended as the highest run-scorer of the tournament.
Shaw then continued his good form in the IPL as he amassed 308 runs in eight matches of IPL 2021 before the season was postponed by the BCCI.
“Prithvi Shaw showed good form in the IPL, every big player has a test, when you have that form, the challenge is to make full use of that form. Shaw had a good domestic season and IPL, if he plays well in Sri Lanka and the remaining matches of the IPL, then he can make a case for himself to be included in the T20 World Cup squad. There is competition, Prithvi needs to play big knocks. I have no doubt that Shaw has the ability to play well and if he plays well, then he makes sure that his team ends on the right side of the result. Prithvi Shaw plays impactful knocks, we have to see how he plays in Sri Lanka,” said Kaif while talking to ANI.
On the other hand, Kaif believes that Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal should play all the six matches of the limited overs series. Both Chahal and Kuldeep haven’t played together since a long time due to their poor form and it will be interesting to note how they will perform.
“Kuldeep and Chahal should play all the matches, but you also need to look at the balance of the side. Coach and captain need to have the right balance, if you play three pacers and Kuldeep-Chahal, then there is an absence of an all-rounder. Yes, if you play six batters, then Kuldeep and Chahal should play all the matches.”
The upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be a great opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent. The first ODI between Sri Lanka and India will be played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo on 18th July.
