Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has put his weight behind Mohammad Rizwan for the captaincy role. Recently, Pakistan suffered a 2-0 loss against Bangladesh despite playing in the home conditions under the leadership of Shan Masood.
Pakistan lost the opening Test at Rawalpindi by 10 wickets and then suffered a six-wicket loss in the second Test at the same venue. Meanwhile, Rizwan has been a consistent performer for Pakistan in all three formats and scored 294 runs in two Test matches against the Tigers at an impressive average of 98.
In the fourth match of the Champions Cup, Markhors captain Mohammad Rizwan decided to bat first against Stallions. Markhors posted 231 runs on the board and then skittled out the opposition at 105 to register a thumping win of 126 runs. Basit Ali showered praise on Rizwan for his ability to read the pitch and the conditions well.
“The way Rizwan led the side, he proved there is no better skipper than him. He has shown it with his captaincy. He read the pitch; it is a big thing. Even Babar can’t do that. I am not even talking about Shan. If you don’t make him captain at this time, then it is a loss for Pakistan. This is the best time you should make Rizwan the captain,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube Channel.
Meanwhile, according to latest reports, Mohammad Rizwan is expected to be handed over the captaincy reins for the white-ball formats. Furthermore, the wicket-keeper bat could also take over the Test captaincy baton from Shan Masood as the left-hander has lost the five matches under his leadership.
