Former Australian gun fast bowler Mitchell Johnson reckons it is good signs for India that Virat Kohli is back amongst the runs. Kohli finally got back into form as he scored a scintillating knock of 122 runs off just 61 balls against Afghanistan in the team’s last match of the Asia Cup.
Kohli scored a total of 276 runs in five matches at an average of 92 and a strike rate of 147.59 in the multi-team tournament to announce his return to form in style. The talisman batted at the top of his game and looked at his previous best, which is great news for India ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Kohli had been struggling to breach the three-digit mark and he was finally able to score an International century after a long wait of 1020 days.
“It is good for India when their best players can make runs and keep the side confident. He is that player who changed the focus of the team when he took on the captaincy. The team will be happy that he is scoring runs,” Johnson told ANI.
“They have to be looking at winning the series in tough conditions. This will give them confidence heading into the World Cup. They should have a solid and settled team going into it. It will be a great series,” Johnson added.
On the other hand, Johnson added that Indian players have the experience of playing big matches in front of a large crowd because of the IPL and it will give them an advantage in the T20 World Cup.
“When it comes to the World Cup, you just enjoy the moment. You need to focus. They are all big teams. Indians are used to playing big games because of the IPL, playing in front of large crowds with a lot of pressure. I think all that stuff (Asia Cup performance) will be behind them,” Johnson said.
India will play against Australia in three-match T20I series and then will play as many T20I matches against South Africa before the T20I showpiece in Australia.
Team India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on 23rd October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
