Former Australian wicket-keeper Ian Healy feels the Pat Cummins-led team will not be able to win the upcoming Test series if India produces unreasonable wickets. Healy believes Australia could go on to win against India if the pitches are flat for batting.
Meanwhile, Australia won their last Test series in India in 2004 when Adam Gilchrist led the team. In fact, Australia lost the last two series against India despite playing in their own conditions.
Australia has been in good form in the recent past as they recently defeated West Indies by 2-0 and then bested South Africa by the same margin.
“If they get flat wickets that India used to put out, nice flat batting wickets and bowlers have to work really hard, I think we can do it,” Healy told Senq breakfast show.
The last time Australia toured India for a Test series was in 2017. The visitors had won the opening game comprehensively in Pune but India bounced back to win the series by 2-1.
“If they produce unreasonable wickets like they did half the series last time (we won’t win), two wickets were just terrible, unfair, spinners jumping over your head on day one,” Healy said about spinning wickets.
“They’ve got a good team but I’m not too scared of their spinners unless they produce unreasonable wickets,” the former wicket-keeper added.
Australia’s batting unit has been in prime form with David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head scoring runs consistently in the home summer. Furthermore, Australia has a potent bowling unit with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon.
