India’s talisman batter Suryakumar Yadav has said everyone wants to play Test cricket and he is looking forward to the upcoming Test series against Australia. As reported by Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the first Test match and SKY is in line to make his Test debut.
Yadav has been in scintillating form in the T20I format and he would look to carry the same in the pristine form of the game. SKY doesn’t have any experience of playing red-ball cricket at the International level but he has the skills to take the game away from the opposition with his blistering batting.
SKY recently scored a fine hundred against Sri Lanka in the T20I series whereas he has returned with scores of 47 and 26 in the two T20I matches against the Kiwis.
“Obviously, everyone wants to play Test cricket. You start your cricket at domestic level, playing with red ball only, and I played for Mumbai. We all know how exciting the series would be, but at the same time, it’s about staying in the present and the focus is on how to give your best for tomorrow’s game, then we have full time to think about Tests,” Suryakumar said in the press conference ahead of 3rd T20I.
SKY played a lot of domestic cricket before making his International debut in 2021. The linchpin believes that exposure helped him prepare for the top level.
“I’ve played a lot of domestic cricket before making my international debut, that has helped me a lot.
“You have to apply yourself a lot and the grind you have there, playing on different challenging tracks, I just carried it from there. Rest I’ve learnt seeing so many senior players in the team, talking to them. Every game, I try to put my best foot forward.”
Yadav made his T20I debut against England in Ahmedabad and he is now back at the same place for the third T20I against the Blackcaps.
Turning a touch emotional, he said: “I told my manager also ‘I’m back where it all began’. Even I took the steps slowly thinking of 2021 and how I came here.
The third and final T20I of the series will be played in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
