Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed he has been given the license by the team’s think tank to go and play freely in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. The left-hander was dismissed cheaply in the opening game despite getting off to a start but he was at his absolute best in the second match.
The southpaw scored 53 runs off just 25 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes as he scored his runs at a blistering strike rate of 212. The youngster took Sean Abbott to the cleaners in the fourth over of the innings, smashing him for 24 runs.
Jaiswal completed his fifty off just 24 balls and he played a key role in helping India post 77 runs in the Powerplay overs. The youngster was awarded Player of the Match for his whirlwind knock after India won by 44 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Jaiswal gave a quickfire start to the home team and his blistering knock was instrumental in India posting 235 runs on the board, which proved to be a par score.
Jaiswal said in the post-match presentation, “It was really special for me. I was trying to play all my shots. Was trying to be fearless. I was sure of my decisions. I have been told by Surya bhai and VVS sir to go and play freely. I have been asked to express myself. For me, what I think I can develop and not think about anything else.”
He added, “I am still learning. It was my mistake in the last game and said sorry to Ruturaj. Accepted was my mistake. Rutu bhai is so humble and very caring. I really worked on my fitness. I am trying to develop all my shots. The mental stuff is something I am working on. I believe in my practice sessions.”
Apart from Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan scored fine fifties for the hosts whereas Rinku Singh added the finishing touches with a cameo of 9-ball 31.
The third T20I between India and Australia will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Tuesday.
