Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was delighted after the team’s thumping seven-wicket win against Bangladesh at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior on Sunday. The hosts were able to bundle out Bangladesh at 127 runs after SKY decided to bowl first on a new ground.
Arshdeep Singh struck in his first over, removing Litton Das and from there on, Bangladesh batters could never get settled at the crease. The visitors kept falling behind the eighth ball as they lost regular wickets and could not find any momentum.
Arshdeep Singh returned with impressive figures of 3-14 and thus he was awarded Player of the Match. Furthermore, Varun Chakravarthy, who was making a return to the team after three years, bagged 3-31 in his quota of four overs.
On the other hand, Indian batters were able to chase down 128 with 49 balls to spare. Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav scored 29 runs apiece whereas Hardik Pandya added the finishing touches with a quickfire 39 off just 16 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation, “We just tried to back our skills and what we decided in our team meetings, it worked out. The way the guys showed character playing on a new ground and the way we batted, it was great. It’s a good headache to have when you are on the field on whom to bowl. Every time you have an extra option, it’s a good thing. You learn something new with every new game. There are always a few areas to improve on, we will sit down and talk about it in the next game.”
India was able to come up with a commanding performance and they were too good for Bangladesh. The bowlers deserve a lot of credit for bowling in the right areas and not allowing the Tigers to achieve any impetus.
The second match of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday.
