Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted they didn’t bat well in both the Test matches, which led to their 2-0 series loss against India. The Tigers lost the second Test match by seven wickets at Green Park, Kanpur despite more than two days getting washed out due to rain.
Bangladesh was bundled out for 233 runs in the first innings of the second Test and could only manage 146 runs in the second essay. Furthermore, the visitors were skittled out for a paltry score of 149 runs in the first innings of the opening Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Moreover, the visitors were bowled out for 234 runs in the second dig.
Shanto admitted that the batters got off to starts but they could not convert their scores into substantial one, which led to their downfall in the series after finding success in Pakistan.
Najmul Hossain Shanto said in the post-match presentation, “Both the Tests we didn’t bat well. In these conditions, we need to bat well. If you look at our batters – we played 30-40 balls and got out. It’s important in a Test match, when batsmen get in, you should look to score big runs.”
Shanto lauded the veteran duo of Ashwin and Jadeja for their 199-run alliance in the opening Test at Chepauk after India found themselves reeling at 144-6.
He added, “The way Ashwin and Jaddu batted at that time – they batted really well. As a bowling unit we need to look at those moments – how we can get those wickets. That partnership cost us that game. The way Mominul batted this innings will help going forward. And the way Miraz bowled in both innings – he bowled really well.”
Bangladesh will take on India in the opening T20I at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior on Sunday.
