India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour is happy with Rohit Sharma’s batting style in the limited-overs format. Rohit is known to take his time in the initial phase of the innings and then changes gears after getting settled. This approach works wonders in the ODI format where the batsman has more time on his sleeve.
However, the same can be questioned in the T20I format as there is less time for the batsman to get his eye in. However, Rathour has backed Rohit’s batting style and stated that the same has been efficient for him as well as the team.
It is noticed that Rohit mostly gets a big score under his belt if he gets settled at the crease. The flamboyant batsman has the skills to destroy the opposition if he gets going at full throttle. In fact, Rohit Sharma has an impressive strike rate of 138.79 in the T20I format and he can hit the big shots if he gets settled.
Rohit has also scored four T20I hundred in the shortest format of the game and his strike rate drastically improves every time he goes past the 50-run mark.
“Somebody like Rohit has a very set game-plan and he has been extremely successful following that game-plan. So I would not really want him to change that. He is somebody who takes his time initially, gets set first, and then goes scores big. That has worked well for us. That has worked well for him. So I absolutely find no reason to change that at this point,” Rathour said while talking to ESPN Cricinfo.
Rohit was in sublime form in the four-match Test series against England as he top-scored for the hosts with 345 runs in seven innings at an average of 57.50. Thus, the stylish batsman will look to continue the same in the white-ball format.
Rohit is all set to open the innings and it will be interesting to note who will be his opening partner. Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul had finished as the top two run-getters in IPL 2020 and one of them will be picked to open with Rohit.
The first T20I against England will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on March 12.
