The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced 18-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. Both the teams will play the ODI seriess at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune behind closed doors from March 23.
Suryakumar Yadav has received his maiden ODI call-up after impressive performances in the domestic circuit as well as the IPL. Yadav scored a fine knock of 57 runs off just 31 balls in the fourth T20I against England he was awarded the Player of the Match award.
On the other hand, Krunal Pandya who had a sublime Vijay Hazare Trophy also makes the cut into the squad. The southpaw scored 388 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 129.33 and a blistering strike rate of 117.93.
Meanwhile, Karnataka’s fast bowler Prasidh also gets a maiden call-up into the squad. Krishna scalped 14 wickets in seven matches at an average of 22.21 and bowled at the top of his game in the tournament.
However, there was no place for Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal, who both were the leading run-getters of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Axar Patel is also not part of the ODI squad whereas Ravindra Jadeja continues his thumb recovery.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has had a decent return to International cricket also makes the cut into the squad. T Natarajan, who recently joined his national teammates in Ahmedabad, is also selected.
Shubman Gill, who didn’t have the best of Test series against England, gets his chance in the ODI squad. Furthermore, Rishabh Pant also returns to the ODI squad after having a fruitful last couple of months.
