India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma has requested the media to leave Rishabh Pant alone. Pant has been under scrutiny and it has build unnecessary pressure on him.
Rohit is of the opinion that Pant will deliver match-winning knocks if he is given the freedom to express himself on the field.
The team management has backed Pant to the hilt and he has been able to come up with his best in the last three months. Pant was put under a lot of pressure but he was able to bounce back in the Test series against Australia. The left-hander scored 97 at the SCG and almost took India to an emphatic win.
Subsequently, the combative southpaw scored a match-winning knock of 89 runs in the historic Brisbane Test match. Thus, Pant scored 274 runs in the three-Test matches and top-scored for the visitors.
Pant continued the same form against England in the four-match Test series. The lad from Delhi scored a blistering knock of 101 runs in the fourth Test match and took his team to a position of strength. Pant ended up scoring 270 runs in the four-Test matches against the tourists.
Pant is only 20 Test matches old but he has played a lot of match-winning knocks and he has delivered the goods for the team.
“Let Rishabh Pant be Rishabh Pant, he will come out and give you those performances. I have said in the past as well that leave Rishabh Pant alone and he will give you those performances. He can only go from strength to strength from here. There is no looking back for him. He has done exceptionally well in the last few months from Australia to the home series that we just played against England,” said Rohit in a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
Rohit added that Pant likes to enjoy his game and he has started understanding the game situation. It was noted earlier that Pant will play a rash shot when the match situation didn’t demand it but he has started playing according to the match situation, which goes to show that he has matured as a batsman.
