The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has broken former captain MS Dhoni’s record of most Test wins in India. Dhoni had taken the team to 21 wins in the home conditions out of the 30 Test matches in which he led.
Meanwhile, Kohli now has 22 victories as an Indian skipper in his own conditions and he has led in a total of 29 matches at home.
Kohli leapfrogged his predecessor’s record after India thrashed England by 10 wickets in the third Test match of the ongoing series at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
In fact, Kohli’s captaincy had come under the scanner after India had lost the first Test match against England by 227 runs. It was the fourth consecutive loss for Kohli as the leader of the team as the team had lost two Test matches against New Zealand and then lost the Adelaide Test against Australia.
However, the Indian team has bounced back in style as they have won the last two Test matches against England and they currently lead the four-match series by 2-1. Thus, the hosts will aim to continue their good form going in the series and qualify for the final of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.
India won the second Test match at Chepauk by a gargantuan margin of 317 runs and then won the third Test by 10 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Kohli has bagged 35 wins in 59 matches, which is the highest number of victories in Tests among the Indian captains. On the other hand, MS Dhoni had led the Indian team in 60 Test matches in which the team had won on 27 occasions.
Kohli is known for his aggressive captaincy and he has done a fine job in all the conditions. The talisman has been able to get the best out of his players and has led from the front. The fourth Test match will begin on March 4 at the same venue of Narendra Modi Stadium.
