England captain Joe Root has revealed that they will prepare really good wickets for India when they will tour England in 2021.
The Indian pitches in the last two Test matches have been under scrutiny as they have provided a lot of help to the spinners. The ball has been turning square, which has made life difficult for the England batsmen.
Former England players like Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook are not at all impressed with the pitches, which have been offered. In fact, the third Test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium was wrapped up within two days as the bat failed to challenge the ball.
The hosts have made the most of their own conditions and the Indian spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel – have breathed down the neck of the opposition. Ashwin has taken 24 wickets in three Test matches whereas Patel has scalped 18 wickets in two Test matches.
Meanwhile, India will tour England for five Test matches in August and the English team could take their revenge by preparing green tops. However, Root stated that in order to be a good team, they need to win on good pitches and play consistently as a unit.
Root said in the post-match press conference, “We are going to prepare really good wickets (when India tour England). If we want to develop as a team and compete everywhere we go in the world, we will have to get used to scoring big runs consistently. We have to get used to bowling on good surfaces and finding ways to take 20 wickets. I think that’s how you build a good team.”
“When you are in England the weather there can sometimes dictate things as well. You still have to bat as long as you can. Every now and then you are going to get surfaces that do a little bit more than you would like. The one thing that we set out to do going in this summer is to put out really good wickets and I feel like our seamers, with the Dukes ball, would always find ways to take wickets,” said Joe Root.
England had thrashed India by 4-1 in 2018 in their own conditions and they will look to be at their best in their home. The Indian team has shown the skills to do better in the alienate conditions and they had recently surprised Australia as they won by 2-1. Thus, it will be an interesting contest when India will tour England for five Test matches.
Meanwhile, the batting was not up to the standards as the third Test was wrapped up with two days. The fourth Test match will be played at the same venue of Narendra Modi Stadium from March 4.
