Former Indian batter Suresh Raina has heaped praise on Dhruv Jurel after India won the fourth Test against England at Ranchi on Monday by five wickets to take an impregnable lead of 3-1 in the series. Jurel scored a fine knock of 90 runs in the first innings after India found themselves under the quagmire at 177-7.
It looked like England will easily take a lead of more than 100 runs after scoring 353 runs but Jurel was able to get the deficit to 46. The right-hander added 76 runs with Kuldeep Yadav, who also scored a gutsy knock of 28 off 131 balls.
Furthermore, Jurel scored an unbeaten knock of 39 runs in the second innings and added a match-winning alliance of 72 runs with Shubman Gill after India found themselves in a spot of bother at 120-5. Thus, Jurel was awarded Player of the Match for his fine knocks in both innings.
“He’s been amazing; I have played a couple of matches with him for Uttar Pradesh. Special credit to Rohit Sharma the way he gave chances to first Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel. It is not easy to come into Test cricket and score back to back fifties, especially in a crucial Test match where the wicket was turning,” Raina told PTI.
Furthermore, Jurel has impressed with his glovework behind the stumps in the ongoing series. Jurel has scored 175 runs in two Test matches at an average of 87.50. The 22-year-old scored 46 runs in his maiden Test innings at Rajkot.
“I was impressed with his wicket-keeping, he has worked really hard. He comes from an Army family, so he has that fearless attitude of never wanting to lose anything from anywhere,” he added.
The fifth and final Test match will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 7.
