England’s veteran James Anderson is 41 and he is still going strong at the top level. Anderson has scalped 696 wickets, the most for any fast bowler, in his glorious career. Anderson feels there is still some fuel left in his old tank and he wants to call it a day when he is on a high.
The gun fast bowler scalped five wickets in the second Test match against India at Vizag as he bowled a fine spell in both innings. After going wicketless on the opening day of the third Test match at Rajkot on Thursday, Anderson gave an early breakthrough as he accounted for Kuldeep Yadav.
“I would like to be able to go out on a nice note. I don’t want to drag it out and people are thinking: ‘Can you just do one.’ Morgs [Morgan] last year woke up and just knew it was time to call it a day. I am just hoping that is the case,” said Anderson while speaking to the Telegraph, as quoted by talkSPORT.
Anderson said he is privileged to find himself in a position where his career decisions are in his own hands.
“I feel privileged to have got in a position where I can make a decision because, as a bowler, it is usually taken out of your hands with injury or selection. It will be nice to go out on my own terms, but when that will be, you just have to wait and see,” Anderson added.
Anderson has all the experience under his belt and he has been a consistent performer for England over the last two decades. The veteran pacer is only four wickets away from becoming the first pacer to take 700 Test wickets. Anderson is only behind the legendary Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne in the list of most wickets in the red-ball version.
