Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has clarified his comments when he compared Dhruv Jurel with former skipper MS Dhoni. Gavaskar has now said that there can be only one MS Dhoni. Jurel has thus far played only two Test matches and it will be too early to compare the youngster with Dhoni.
Jurel, who is glittering like a jewel, returned with scores of 90 and 39* and legendary Anil Kumble feels the youngster certainly has all the credentials to get to where Dhoni reached in his glorious career.
Jurel, like Dhoni, has also impressed with his glovework behind the stumps. Furthermore, just like Dhoni, Jurel has a calm head on his shoulders. When India was on the mat at 177-7 after England posted 353 runs, Jurel scored a fine knock of 90 runs and added 76 runs with Kuldeep Yadav, who gave him great support.
Jurel’s knock helped India post 307 runs in the first innings and reduced the deficit to 46 runs. Moreover, Jurel scored an unbeaten knock of 39 runs in the second essay in the run-chase of 192 and thus he was awarded Player of the Match.
Earlier, former Indian captain Anil Kumble had also compared Dhruv Jurel with MS Dhoni.
Sunil Gavaskar said on India Today “The way he thinks about the game, the way he assesses the situation and bats accordingly, gives me the MS Dhoni feels. He would hit a six in between and then look for ones and twos to rotate the strike… Even in keeping, the way he gathered that wayward throw and ran out Ben Duckett and then took a brilliant catch of Jimmy Anderson who went for the reverse sweep.”
Gavaskar added if Jurel can continue to impress like Dhoni did in his career, then it will be great for Indian cricket.
“When MS Dhoni was of his age, he too had the same situation awareness. And that is why I said, Jurel is like MS Dhoni. No one can become MS Dhoni. There is only one MS Dhoni. But if Jurel can manage to do even some portion of the things Dhoni did then it would be great for Indian cricket,” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.
The fifth and final Test match will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 7.
