Legendary Sunil Gavaskar feels Rohit Sharma will need to use his bowlers cleverly in the upcoming opening Test match against England. Rohit has all the leadership experience under his belt and he will look to lead from the front in the upcoming Test series.
India has a potent spin battery as they have spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav in their squad.
Furthermore, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan have been picked in the pace-bowling line-up.
“As captain, Rohit Sharma will need to use his bowlers cleverly. Usually in Hyderabad, there is not enough turn on offer, so if England bats first and make a successful start till lunch, there we’ve to see how he uses his bowlers to judge him,” said Gavaskar while talking to Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma scored 345 runs in four Test matches at an average of 57.50 when England toured India in 2021. Gavaskar recalled Rohit Sharma’s fine knock of 161 runs against England in the Chennai Test.
“Rohit Sharma scored a tremendous century against England in the Chennai Test during the previous home series. He showed how to bat in a spin-friendly pitch. If he bats similarly then Team India will get a good start. It also eases the work for No. 3 and 4 batters,” Gavaskar added.
India and England will take on each other in the first Test match from 25th January onwards at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
