Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly feels Sarfaraz Khan’s game is suited to Test cricket. After waiting in the wings for a long time, Khan made a fine start to his Test career in the third Test match against England at Rajkot. Khan returned with scores of 62 and 68* on his Test debut and became only the fourth Indian batter to score twin fifties in his maiden Test match.
The 26-year-old has a potent game against the spinners and has impressed after scoring a truckload of runs in the domestic circuit for Mumbai. However, Khan could not deliver the goods in the fourth Test at Ranchi as he returned with scores of 14 and 0.
Khan has amassed 3912 runs at an average of 69.85 in 45 first-class games and recently scored a fine knock of 161 runs off just 160 balls against England Lions in the second unofficial Test for India A.
“I think he’s more of a five-day player. His game is suited for that. T20 is a different format. And the amount of runs he scored in domestic cricket, in the Ranji trophy and in first-class cricket has been phenomenal. And as they say, if you score runs, it doesn’t go to waste. And that’s exactly what’s happened to Sarfaraz,” said Ganguly on RevSportz.
Sarfaraz has certainly shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he will look to come up with the goods in the fifth Test match at Dharamshala. If Khan plays the fifth Test against England, he will also be eligible for Grade C category for the BCCI central contract and the same applies to Dhruv Jurel, who has also played two Test matches so far.
The fifth and final Test match will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 7.
